CONTAMINATS AND ADDITIVES LABORATORY

The contaminants and additives division deals daily with issues that arise in a society careful to health and the protection of the environment, for this reason it is constantly involved to receive with authoritativeness and rapidity the requirements of the costumers.

The staff of the Contaminants and Additives division of Chelab, is composed by 20 highly specialized analysts,15 of them are graduated (in chemistry and industrial chemistry, chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry) and 5 are qualified chemists.
The analyzed matrices are different and include: cereals and by-products, feed and feeding mixtures, vegetables and fruits, meat and meat giblets, biological liquids, marine and freshwater animals, eggs, apiculture products, milk and by-products. The same importance have also the liquid coming from leaching tests and environmental samples, for example the waters and the stack emissions.
The activity of this department can be divided into three principal categories:

• Residues of contaminants research
• Control of the quantity of added additives
• Allergens research

In all cases, the analysis consists of many steps: the extraction of active principle or the researched compound from the sample, one or more purifications of the raw extract and finally the quantitative and qualitative determination, using the cutting-edge equipment of the laboratory.

Among the most researched active principles, we can list, for example:

BETA AGONISTS

The laboratory is strongly committed to the development of new analytical methodologies and to the continuous improvement of the existing ones, because there are only few official methods for the detection of contaminants and additives in alimentary products. For this aim, this department makes a use of a well furnished library with the most prestigious and up-to-date international publications. The testing methods are anyway accurately validated and many of them are SINAL accredited.
