‘Biodiesel’ is the common name which generally identifies the fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) obtained by renewable sources of energy such as vegetable oil and animal fats through a chemical process called transesterification. The standard international specifications are established by the norm UNI EN 14214 for FAME used in the autotraction and by the norm UNI EN 14213 for FAME used to heat.

The laboratory performs the following characterization analysis:

Volume mass at 15°C

Viscosity at  40°C

Sulphur

Carbonious residue(on 10% distillation residue)

Sulphated ashes

Water

Total solid contaminants

Oxidative stability (110°C)

Acidity value

Iodine value

Sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium

Phosphorus

Cold filter plugging point (CFPP)

Flowing point
