Analisi IGIENE INDUSTRIALE
Air dispersed wood dusts
Analytical proposal for the evaluation of the exposure and inhalation of air dispersed wood dusts in work places according to:
- The Italian Legislative Decree Government nr. 81 dated 09/04/2008 – Actuation of article 1 dated 3rd of August 2007, nr. 123, regarding health and safety protection in work places;
- UNI EN 689:1997 – Atmosphere in work places - Guide to the evaluation of the exposition and inhalation of chemical compounds to be compared with limit values and the measurement strategy.
Laboratory Tests
Inhalable dusts: Because of their granulometry, wood dusts are included in the group of inhalable fraction of air dispersed particles. For this reason the applied sampling and testing method is the same used for the evaluation of inhalable dusts. The appendix A of the UNICHIM 1998 method reports some modifications to be applied if such method is used for particular applications as for example the evaluation of wood Dusts.
The difference between wood dusts and inhalable fraction dusts is that hard wood dusts, are considered cancerogeneous according to the Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008 so their exposure limit in work places (during the 8 working hours) is more restricted in comparison with inhalable fraction dusts according to ACGIH of 2008.
