A lot of cosmetic formulations are available as wet wipes packaged in sealed packages. Initially, these products were used above all for the hygiene of the children, while now they have a wide range of uses.

As the other cosmetic products that have an aqueous phase, also the wet wipes are subjected to microbic contamination and require the addition of preservatives that protect them from this occurrence. |
The efficacy of the preservatives can be evaluated through a standard challenge test performed on imbiber liquid, even though this modality is totally different from the normal conditions of use of this kind of products. For this reason Chelab, has always performed challenge test on soaked wipes (and not only on the imbiber liquid), in order to simulate the real conditions of use. The protocol used till now was borrowed from the guide lines of European Pharmacopoeia, as specific indications about the method to adopt were missing.
With the aim of imporoving their methods trying to adapt as much as possible to the types of products present in the market, Chelab Laboratory – in accordance with studies available in literature – has modified the protocol used for the execution of Challenge Test making it more suitable to this category of products.
