CYANAMIDE: CHELAB CAN RESEARCH ITS RESIDUES ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

It is known how the productions on the market derive great benefit from an optimal level of ripening, in particular in the South of Italy, characterized by mild winters, where the fruits trees have a tardy and not regular.

To solve this problem, it was possible to find in the market a phytosanitary product, made of cyanamide hydrogen (it was registered in Italy on kiwi, vine, cherry tree and apricot tree), active principle able to uniform the vegetable growing and blossoming, with a consequent advance of the pullulation and the fruits ripening.
This active principle provided the opportunity to have the crop in advance, but many experimental evidences showed that this substance can have dangerous effects on human health, in particular on the operators.

The Italian Government, consequently, disposed a revocation of this phytoregulator with immediate effect, without any opportunity of stock removal (Italian Decree 18 March 2008).

European Community, some months late (Decision of 18 September 2008), disposed a period of stock removal until 18 March 2010.
