MATERIALS IN CONTACT WITH FOODSTUFFS
Glass destined to contact with food
The objects in glass destined to contact with foodstuffs are generally regulated by EC regulation 1935/2004 and by national regulation D.P.R. 777 of 23.08.1982 and following modifications, and in specific way by MD 21/03/73 and following modifications. Then, the glass is a material whose regulation is not harmonized yet.
- Category A : boron silicate and sodic calcic both colourless and stained glasses destined to contact with the foodstuff in any conditions of time and temperature included the sterilization;
- Categoty B: sodic calcic glasses, (also opacized) destined to contact with foodstuffs in conditions of maximum temperature 80°C;
- Category C: lead glasses destined to contact with foodstuffs in short and repeated condition
Depending on the category, the regulation provides to perform the tests of overall and specific migrations of lead, when it is planned.
As follows we list the tests that the laboratory that we perform in our lab and that they are provided by the regulation in force:
