BIOCIDES

Biocides are preparations constituted by one or more active principles able to destroy or make innocuous, stop the action or exercise a control effect on organisms considered injurious to human and animal health in domestic, civil and industrial environment; due to their intrinsic properties and to the diffuse use, they can create sanitary and environmental risks.
The European reference regulation concerning biocides is the Directive 98/8/EC which has been acknowledged in Italy by the Legislative Decree 25th February 2000, n° 174 (and following modifications). The directive which harmonizes the different Regulations of the member states favours, in this way, the reciprocal recognition of the authorizations and guarantees an high level of protection for the man and for the environment.
At a community level, the Directive establishes the drawing up of a list of active principles that can be used in the biocides and which are listed in I, IA or IB enclosures. Biocides, containing the admitted active principles, can be introduced in the market after receiving the authorization or registration by the Ministry of the Health.

Chelab assay centre offers a wide range of services for the adaptation to the regulation concerning the biocide substances and products (Legislative Decree174/2000 and EC regulations).
In particular the offer considers the many needs of the costumers as regards the methods and the ratio quality-price. In general the analysis and the costs are formulated in accordance with the requirements: cognitive analysis or screening analysis with high qualitative standards in keeping with the Good Laboratory Practise are less expansive and demanding than analysis intended to be used for the registration of substances (that is authorization to the commerce and to the use given by the competent authorities) following the Good Laboratory Practise (GLP).
The laboratory, in compliance with GLP and with OECD guide lines, offers the following services:

Development and validation of analytical methods for the determination and identification of the active principle

Studies related to:

Physical, chemical and technical properties of the substance/product;

Accelerated stability test and on-going;
In vitro toxicological studies;
Ecotoxicological studies;
Studies of biotic and abiotic degradation;
Efficacy studies against target organisms

Moreover Chelab, thanks to the precious collaboration with experts of the sector, supports its costumers as regards the protocols and the documents for the drawing up of recording dossier and notifications for the biocides, the application of the regulation following to the inscription of the active principles in the I, IA and IB enclosures of the Directive 98/8/EC.
